my home

I realize it's nearly the end of my second semester here in Boston. But for a variety of reasons, I am not at our community worship today and have decided to update my blog. So I will FINALLY include some lovely pictures of where I have settled in to live for a few years!

Our lovely house! There is a yard on the side, which is really great to have. My roommates are two wonderful people I lived with in undergrad, Michael and Abbey. We have the first floor of the house, and our landlord and his family live in the top two. They have lived here for 40 years or so, and have been incredibly kind to us. Even gave us some tomatoes grown in their garden!

Our living room has really come a long way. With hanging plants, bookshelves, some paintings I did, and a beautiful wall hanging sculpture (in the middle of the two squares) given as a gift from Michael's mother, it's feeling much more homey.

One of my favorite things is the kitchen! It is plenty spacious and we scrounged up the table and chairs separately, but I think we did a darn good job! It is literally in the center of the apartment (the doors on either side of the stove are to the two bedrooms) so our kitchen has been our social space, which I am awfully thrilled with.

So my favorite part of the kitchen is our pantry!!! We have lots of extra space to store food and frankly it's just so stinking cute!!!

All three of us are pretty committed to environmental concerns and particularely how that works with our food. We try not to buy processed food, buy practical organic things when we can, and really try to buy local. We found a great food co-op just a short bit away in Cambridge that allows us to buy a lot of things in bulk! We have a bunch of Mason jars that we refill all the time now with beans, rice, quinoa, popcorn, lentils, you name it. We can even refill honey, olive oil, peanut butter, almond butter, spices, tea, coffee, etc. It's pretty great and not that much of a pain and seriously diminishes on our trash!

So there is my house, many months after having moved in. We still have a house wishlist of things we'd like to have, but we're working on it slowly but surely

Hopefully soon I will have more updates about life in Boston!!!!
